Star Wars Rocket-Firing Boba Fett Prototype Toy
A holy grail of collectible toys is up for auction — and it's so dangerous only a limited run of prototypes were made. By collecting four proof-of-purchase seals from Kenner's 3.75" Star Wars action figures, kids could mail them in to receive a special Boba Fett figure with a firing rocket backpack. The figures were instead delivered with a non-functional rocket pack, with Kenner nixing the idea after a series of mishaps including one death from Mattel's Battlestar Galactica spaceships with a similar mechanism. A handful of working prototypes were made, with five hand-painted, and two painted in the color scheme that would have been on the production figures. The figure here is one of those two. With prices ranging from $15,000 to $235,000 over the last decade, this Boba Fett is rated an AFA 60 EX and comes in a custom acrylic case with documentation verifying its authenticity.
