Stephen Hawking's Motorized Wheelchair

Along with 22 other significant items from his estate, Stephen Hawking's Motorized Wheelchair is going up for sale. The late great physicist started having to rely on wheelchairs in the late 1960s as a result of his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. This one, in particular, was used from the late-1980s to the mid-1990s and is the oldest surviving member of his collection. The auction also includes his Cambridge Ph.D. thesis, a script from his cameo on The Simpsons, and various awards and medals. Bidding begins on October 31 and the proceeds from this lot will go to The Stephen Hawking Foundation and The Motor Neurone Disease Association.
