Stratolaunch Air-Launch Aircraft Platform

Purpose-built to take smaller aircraft and rockets into the air where it's easier (and far cheaper) to get to orbit, the Stratolaunch is the world's largest aircraft, weighing in at 500,000 lbs and measuring 385 feet across — and its maiden flight is approaching. The six-engine craft reached a speed of 136 mph during a recent high-speed taxi run. Its front wheels lifted slightly during the test, indicating that it's estimated take-off speed of 150-180 mph is likely correct. The first test flight is expected to happen in the next 15 months, with commercial service beginning after that.
