Teenage Engineering APC-2 Record Cutter
Teenage Engineering's last vinyl cutter was a pocket-sized toy co-designed with Yuri Suzuki that sold for around $60. The APC-2 is built in collaboration with Vienna-based analog specialists SuperSense and is aimed at anyone who wants to press their own records at professional quality without going through a plant. The direct-drive motor runs on a precision-polished tungsten shaft with wow and flutter under 0.01% WRMS, which puts it in the range of professional mastering lathes. A stereo feedback cutting head sits on a custom tonearm with an automated lift mechanism; an integrated vacuum system holds the disc and removes swarf in real time. DAW integration allows for locked grooves and specialty cuts, and the whole machine can be controlled remotely over Ethernet or Wi-Fi. Built from powder-coated aluminum, it weighs 308 pounds and is roughly the size of a large desk. Price is available on request.
