Terra Mar House
There's no shortage of dramatic views in Big Sur. The Terra Mar House capitalized on the picturesque surroundings while not taking attention away from them. Built in 1998 by architect Mickey Muennig, the 2,679-square-foot dwelling hugs the cliffside with a linear layout. The front facade is clad entirely in glass, reflecting the scenery and almost fading into the backdrop. Internally, living spaces benefit from the floor-to-ceiling glazing with sweeping panoramas of the California coast. Along with its two bedrooms, a guest house offers an additional bedroom. The two volumes are connected by a skywalk bridge that floats inhabitants over the Pacific waters.
