Toyota Tacoma X-Runner Concept Truck
The venerable Tacoma isn't just for off-road shenanigans anymore. Toyota arrived at the 2023 SEMA show with the Tacoma X-Runner; a two-wheel-drive pickup that aims to bring back the lowered, street-tuned sport truck. Overlanding and prerunners have dominated the aftermarket truck scene for years, and a brainstorming session at Toyota's Calty Design Studio in Michigan led to a concept that goes against current trends. Based on the new 2024 Tacoma, the X-Runner's i-FORCE 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 makes 421 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque with a side-exit exhaust integrated into the skirts just before the rear wheels. The track is widened by three inches and the frame is modified to accept the Tundra's front control arms, rear axle, and air suspension. The hood scoop is functional, with a new front fascia that keeps the Tacoma's styling while adding a much more aggressive look. The X-Runner looks production-ready, and its turbocharged V6 will make it into the Tundra TRD Performance package next year — a sign of what might be to come for the X-Runner.
