Clarity in Chaos
The first 24 minutes of Steve Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan is arguably the best battle scene in the history of film. Depicting the landing of Omaha Beach on D-Day, Spielberg captures the intensity and chaos if the battlefield, with flying bullets, explosions, and the dead and wounded. But through the confusion and horror, Spielberg is also able to bring moments of intense clarity and solid narrative to what looks like unleashed hell up and down the beach.
