Director Ari Aster took the horror genre in a new direction in 2018 with Hereditary and looks to do the same again with his new film Midsommar. Eschewing the dark look typical of most horror films, Midsommar has a bright, softly lit style to it, and takes place during summer — certainly not the look we're used to. Once every 90 years, a nine-day festival takes place in a Swedish hamlet. What begins as an idyllic getaway quickly becomes a game of survival at the hands of a pagan cult. The film comes to theaters on July 3, 2019.
In what might be the strangest promotional tour in modern history, a lobotomy specialist enlists a young photographer to accompany him as he goes to asylums to sell his out-of-favor procedure. What starts as a sales pitch becomes a surreal journey as the burgeoning New Age movement leads the doctor to identify with his patients. Starring Tye Sheridan, Hannah Gross, and Jeff Goldblum, The Mountain hits theaters July 26, 2019.
