Summer of Soul

Over six weeks in 1969, the Harlem Cultural Festival took place in Morris Park. Featuring legendary performers from Nina Simone to Stevie Wonder, Sly & the Family Stone, and B.B. King, the festival was broadcast evenings on New York local station WNEW Metromedia Channel 5 — but largely fell out of the pop culture memory. Footage shot of the show sat in a basement and has never been seen — until now. Summer of Soul comes theaters and on Hulu on July 2, 2021
