A Book of Beards

A Book of Beards

Straggly or sleek, full-bodied or selectively styled, there are tons of beard varieties in the world — and you'll find gorgeous portraits of 86 of them in A Book of Beards ($45). Spawned from idea to photograph local beards in West Chester, PA, this gorgeous coffee table tome also features beards both local and exotic, 18 written contributions, and 125 pages. The proceeds will go to help Mike, the brother of author/photographer Justin Muir, and other cancer patients and survivors, so you'll have a fine answer should someone ask why you have a book full of bearded men in your living room.

  • Beer Cookbook

You love beer. You love to eat. And while you certainly enjoy drinking beer while eating, why not try and combine the two even further? Clocking in at a lightweight 48 pages, the Beer Cookbook ($11) offers a nearly equal number of tasty dishes that incorporate hoppy goodness in a multitude of ways, from the straight-forward spicy beer-soaked shrimp to the more nuanced chocolate stout lava cake.

  • Cardboard Gods

If you're over the age of 20, odds are you grew up knowing the sweet, casino-like surge of euphoria that came from ripping open a pack of baseball cards. Author Josh Wilker knew it as well, and it led him to pen Cardboard Gods ($20). More personal memoir than historical document, this roughly 240-page book looks back at the memories of boyhood as only a man can — through the eyes of childhood toys.
