McLaren MP4-12C

It's not often a new car from a small(ish) manufacturer can run with the Ferraris, Porsches, and Lamborghinis of the world, but that's certainly the case with the McLaren MP4-12C ($230,000). This spiritual successor to the legendary F1 uses a 592-horsepower 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and a seven-speed twin-clutch gearbox to go from 0-60 in as little as 3.2 seconds, from 0-125 in 8.9 seconds, a Proactive chassis control system that allows for instant adjustment of the car's settings to match the situation, brake-steer technology borrowed from Formula 1, and other goodies that make it as beastly on the track as it is attention-grabbing off of it.

  • Cadillac CTS-V Black Diamond Edition

For luxury car makers, it appears black is the new, ummm, black. The Cadillac CTS-V Black Diamond Edition ($70,000) is the latest black-themed ride to emerge from a luxury auto maker, and features a proprietary black SpectraFlair paint job with a diamond-like finish, Satin Graphite 19-inch wheels, yellow Brembo brake calipers, black leather Recaro seats that feature 14 adjustable elements and microfiber suede inserts, Midnight Sapele wood trim. Otherwise, it's the same old CTS-V Sedan, Coupe, or Wagon, including the supercharged 6.2L V8 engine with 556-horsepower, six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, and aggressive, angular lines.

  • 2012 Porsche Boxster S Black Edition

Looks like someone in Stuttgart has been listening to a bit too much of Rolling Stones. The 2012 Porsche Boxster S Black Edition ($65,200) is a monochrome menace of a machine, powered by a 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine — paired with either a six-speed manual or Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe seven-speed double clutch transmission — that outputs 320 horsepower and propels the car from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 170 mph. As you might have guessed from the name, the exterior is all about the darkness, with a black body, black convertible top, black-painted 19-inch wheels, black safety bars, black side air intakes, black twin exhaust tailpipes, black seats — basically everything that isn't an aluminum or stainless steel accent.
