1918 Inverted Jenny US Postage Stamp

Printed in 1918, this Inverted Jenny US Postage Stamp is one of the rarest there is. The original stamp was created to pay tribute to the beginning of airmail service. What makes this one significant is that the Curtiss "Jenny" biplane is printed upside-down, and only a sheet of 100 was sold to the public. Named for their position on the sheet, this is "Position 49" and has been authenticated by experts and the Philatelic Foundation as "mint never hinged, extremely fine-superb 95," translating to the finest Inverted Jenny that exists. Due to its rarity and historical significance, it recently sold at auction Robert A. Siegel Auction Galleries for a whopping $1.7 million.
