1950 Ferrari 166 MM Touring Barchetta

Before Ferrari hit its stride in the mid-'50s with cars like the 250 GT and 250 TR, it was a maker of much more homely automobiles like this 1950 166 MM. The example here, chassis #0034M, was delivered new to Count Paolo Marzotto on March 8, 1950, with the intention of being raced. It was entered in the Giro di Sicilia in April of that year, followed by the Mille Miglia, with the car taking its first win in July at the IV Coppa d'Oro delle Dolomiti. The car would continue to compete through 1959, changing hands but remaining in Italy through the 1970s. Returning to the classic version of Mille Miglia in 1984, the car would race in seven editions from 1986 to 1992 — doing what it was intended to from the start. This machine will go to auction, leaving its long-time owner on February 6th with an estimated hammer price of up to $6.3 million.
