1958 Porsche 550A Spyder

Porsche's first race car was the 550 and it was an immediate success. The car would set the template for Porsche's success in racing, with the 550 taking a class win the 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans and winning the 1956 Targa Florio. The 550A Spyder debuted in 1956, and while cosmetically similar, it was an entirely different car underneath. An advanced space frame chassis cut down the already minuscule weight and offered a huge increase in rigidity. The 550A pictured here is claimed by the current owner to have been raced by the Piech family and has recently completed a 30-year restoration. With its combination of rarity and history, the 550A Spyder is a must for and serious Porsche collector.
