1964 Porsche 904 GTS Racing Car

Building on the mid-engine 550 and 718 race cars, the 904 would be a harbinger of Porsche's dominance of sports car racing that would come in the late 60s and early 70s. Using a ladder chassis with bonded fiberglass bodywork and a flat-four, the 904 was a winner in events across Europe. This 1964 904 has an extensive in-period racing history, starting with its original owner, Udo Schutz. Schutz competed in over 31 events through 1965, including the Nurburgring 1000 kms. The car's last in-period race came in 1967 in the US at the USRRC Road America 500. This 904's previous owners include Bobby Rahal, three-time CART champion and winner of the 1986 Indy 500.
