1964 Shelby 289 Cobra Roadster

The fire-breathing, fender-flared 427 Cobra gets all the attention, but the original 289 Cobra is considered to be the drivers' car. A smaller, high-revving V8 takes a lot of weight out of the car, letting the brilliant combination of American motor and British chassis really shine. This 1964 289 Cobra was bought new in San Diego, California by well-regarded architect Henry Hartwell Hester. Hester paid just over $6,700 to drive it off the showroom floor and sold it on in 1970. The next owner had the Cobra modified for SCCA Solo I competition and raced it into the early 1980s. The Cobra as it is now has a replacement K-code 289 motor but comes fully documented with the original window sticker and Shelby documentation — making this the rare Cobra that can be enjoyed and not just stored away to appreciate in value.
