1966 Shelby 427 Cobra
Carroll Shelby had a simple philosophy when it came to the Cobra — if some is good, more is better. The original Cobra's 289 V8 in an AC Ace chassis was great, so wedging Ford's 427 would be even greater. The 427 Cobra used an all-new chassis with coilover springs to handle the larger motor and the bodywork was revised into one of the most beautiful shapes ever penned by the hands of man. Wider fenders and a larger opening for the radiator were required for the side-oiler 427 and the larger wheels and tires to make use of the extra power. The Cobra here, chassis no. CSX 3237 was originally built with a 428 Cobra Jet motor. Passing from the original in Oklahoma in the '70s before ending up in Japan in the '90s, the car returned to the US in the mid-2010s. The car was given a no-expenses-spared restoration and is now going to auction in January 2024.
