1978 Alpina B7 Turbo Coupe

As AMG is to Mercedes, so Alpina is to BMW. Alpina has been modifying BMW vehicles for 60 years, to the point that the German government recognizes Alpina as an automobile manufacturer in its own right. One of the finest examples of Alpina's transformation of BMW cars is this 1978 B7 Turbo coupe, originally a promotional vehicle for the 1978 International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany, and one of 149 cars made. Built on the 6 Series coupe that debuted in 1977, Alpina added a turbocharger to the 3.0-liter inline-six, bringing horsepower up to 300 12 psi of boost. Vented brake discs, Bilstein dampers, progressive springs, and adjustable sway bars combined with 16-inch wheels and tires improve upon the 6 Series' already excellent handling. The car was imported from Europe to the US, where it failed to sell in a recent auction on Bring a Trailer.
