1998 Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK GTR

In the late 90s, Mercedes had its hands full on the track. Partnering with Ilmor Engineering, they provided engines for the American CART series, the McLaren F1 team, and in less than six months, designed and developed the CLK GTR for the FIA GT Championship. The competition was fierce: The CLK GTR went up against the Porsche 911 GT and the legendary BMW-powered McLaren F1, meaning that Mercedes was up against its three German rivals. Despite what Mercedes was up against, they came out on top, winning the FIA GT Championship in 1998. This Mercedes AMG CLK GTR is the ninth of 25 road-going versions built — a true race car thinly outfitted for the street. The track-proven design and winning record make the CLK GTR an important piece of Mercedes racing history.
