2010 Tesla Sport Roadster Trio
As much a mystery as an auction, three brand-new 2010 Tesla Roadsters were discovered sitting in shipping containers in a port in China. The Roadsters were apparently to be disassembled and reverse-engineered by a Chinese competitor — something that never happened, with the startup going bankrupt. Tesla Roadster broker Gruber Motors now has the three Teslas coming back to the US, with the winning bid hitting $2 million for the two orange and one red Roadsters. Two are the top-line Sport trim and one is a base model, although these early Teslas are known to brick their batteries after going long periods without being charged — and these three cars are nearly 13 years old. To add even more mystery, the shipping manifest lists four cars, but only three were recovered. The fourth Roadster's chassis is missing, with a box of parts found that indicate that the car was to be assembled upon reaching China. Find out more from The Drive.
