1988 Porsche 962

The Porsche 962 was the latest in a line of endurance racing prototypes that established the German manufacturer as a dominant force in racing. Tracing its lineage back to the 917, the 962 was immediately successful from its 1984 debut up until the mid-90s. This 1988 962 was driven to a 9th-place overall finish at the 1988 24 Hours of Le Mans, with eight of the top 10 being 962s. The car finished its racing career in 1990, with the next owner running it in various historical racing events until 2001. The car's next owner campaigned it in the Le Mans Classic in 2012 with Derek Bell behind the wheel. Chassis no. CK6-88's current owner embarked on an unusual restoration — making the car road-legal for use in the UK. An intercom system, handbrake, rearview camera, and digital dash mean the car could be driven from the UK, compete in the Le Mans Classic, and driven home again — something Le Mans cars haven't been able to do in decades. The car is currently up for sale via RM Sotheby's.
