Special Vehicle Engineering has the solution if you find Chevrolet's family of full-size SUVs underwhelming in the horsepower department — two supercharged upgrade packages that push them to 850 and 1,000 horsepower. Available with either the short wheelbase Tahoe or the extended wheelbase Suburban in rear-wheel-drive only, SVE takes the LT1 V8 from the Corvette and replaces the original 5.3-liter motor. The replacement LT1 has an increased stroke, to 6.8 liters, forged internals, and other performance parts like a stainless-steel exhaust. The fuel system is upgraded with larger throttle bodies and a heavy-duty transmission to handle the increased power is included. An optional sport suspension tucks the SUV down for better handling, and several wheel and tire packages are on offer to keep up with the increased power. Despite the stratospheric upgrade under the hood, SVE has
GM's approval for the project, including a multi-year warranty.
