2022 Volkswagen Golf R Hatchback

VW created the "hot hatch" in 1975 when it released the GTI at Frankfurt Auto Show. Over 45 years later, the 2022 Golf R is here, continuing that tradition as the most powerful and sophisticated hatch VW has ever made. Equipped with VW's latest 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, the Golf R packs a 2-liter turbocharged four making 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, pushing the hatchback from 0-62 in 4.7 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 155 MPH — stats that would have been in the supercar range at one time. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and that modern rarity, a six-speed, three-pedal manual are available. While still immediately recognizable as a Golf, the R gets an integrated front splitter, hatch spoiler, and quad-tip dual exhaust. VW hasn't announced pricing or when the Golf R will arrive in dealers, but expect it sometime in the first half of 2021.
