2024 BMW i7 Protection Sedan

BMW has claimed a world-first in the electric car arena -- the first armored EV sedan. The 7 and i7 were designed from the ground up to be armored, streamlining the process and optimizing the sedan for its VR9 level of ballistic protection. BMW's dual-motor electric drivetrain makes 544 horsepower and 549 lb-ft of torque, but the extra weight of the ballistic protection makes for reduced range and a 0-62 time of 9.0 seconds -- meaning the i7 relies on its armor more than making a quick getaway. Two levels of armor will be offered: the VR9 standard, and the even higher-protection VPAM 10. Both models, however, use VPAM 10 glass, a standard specified for military vehicles. But ballistic threats aren't the only ones on BMW's mind. With the emerging threat of drones, BMW paid special attention to the top and underside of the i7, with additional plating to maximize resistance to explosives. Deliveries of the i7 Protection will begin in 2024.
