Founded in 2014 by coffee entrepreneur Austin Peterson, Black Dog Traders specializes in creating some of the best 40 series Land Cruisers you can get. While searching South America for beans, Peterson fell in love with the FJ40 and its ability to go anywhere from the mountains to the jungle. Peterson began sourcing more than coffee, importing FJ40s and giving them a makeover that's more than a restoration at Black Dog Traders' Dallas, Texas shop. Three models are available: The Daily Driver, Outdoorsman, and Hunter. Each chassis is stripped bare, sandblasted, and parts replaced if not salvageable. Motor options range from 6- to 6.2-liter LS V8s. Suspension components are from Old Man Emu and FOX, with Atlas transfer cases and lockers, four-wheel disc brakes, and new axles. Each model is limited to a handful of units annually, and they understandably sell fast.
