Claude Monet's Meules a Giverny

The father of Impressionism, Claude Monet is best known for his Water Lilies, but his Haystacks are also notable. Painted in 1893, Meules à Giverny comes from the latter series and depicts a stack of harvested grain bathed in sunlight in the countryside of Giverny, France, where he lived for the final four decades of his life. Signed and dated by the artist in the lower right corner, the oil on canvas work measures roughly 26" x 40" and will be sold as part of Sotheby's Modern Evening Auction on May 15th.
