Cormac McCarthy's 1995 Lotus Esprit S4S

Cormac McCarthy wrote some of the darkest, most unsparing prose in American literature, but off the page, he was a lifelong car enthusiast who owned Ferraris, Porsches, a Ford GT40, and Allard race cars. McCarthy acquired this 1995 Lotus Esprit S4S in 2010, and it is now offered by his estate with no reserve. Finished in gloss black with a gray leather interior, the S4S was the final evolution of Lotus's four-cylinder Esprit lineage, powered by a 2.2-liter turbocharged inline-four making 301 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque, with a top speed of 168 mph and a 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds when new. The wedge-shaped composite body shows just 18,000 miles, though the car was never registered or titled and doesn't currently run, making it a project for the right buyer. His brother Dennis, who is handling the sale, hopes it finds someone willing to roll up their sleeves. McCarthy, by all accounts, would have approved.
