Freelander Concept 97 Electric SUV
For nearly two decades, the Freelander was Land Rover's most accessible SUV. Now it's a brand of its own. The Concept 97, named for the year the original debuted, is the first vehicle from a newly independent EV brand born from a 12-year JLR joint venture. Unveiled in Shanghai, it pairs JLR's design expertise with a premium EV platform backed by Huawei on assisted driving, CATL on the battery, and Qualcomm on the intelligent cabin. Outside, the signature triangular rear window, a design thread pulled directly from the 1997 original, anchors a bold rounded silhouette with advanced exterior lighting and a retractable cloth roof. Inside, a low dashboard opens up cockpit sightlines, third-row wraparound padding creates a lounge environment, and handwoven textiles run throughout. Production starts at the end of 2026.
