Guggenheim Abu Dhabi
Two decades after it was first announced, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi finally has an opening date: December 11, 2026. The $1 billion museum is a late work of Frank Gehry, who wrapped the building in nine metallic cones that echo his Guggenheim Bilbao while doubling as a natural ventilation system built for the desert climate. The outdoor exhibition areas span roughly 250,000 square feet, and inside, 30 galleries totaling around 125,000 square feet surround a central atrium. The collection leans on modern and contemporary art, with highlighted artists including Yayoi Kusama, Dan Flavin, Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian, and Bharti Kher. The museum lands in Abu Dhabi's Saadiyat Cultural District alongside the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum, and teamLab Phenomena, and becomes the fourth Guggenheim location worldwide, joining Bilbao, New York, and Venice.
