Hermes x MycoWorks Mycelium Victoria Bag
Mycelium, the branching, thread-like part of fungi, is of interest to many companies looking to replace traditional animal leather. Hermès has paired up with biotech firm MycoWorks on a new material, dubbed Sylvania, that combines the latter's Fine Mycelium process for producing interlocking, cellular structures and the former's craftsmanship. The Fine Mycelium is created in MycoWorks' facility, then tanned and finished in France by Hermès craftspeople. The first product to come out of the collaboration is a version of the Victoria bag with brown Sylvania side panels, a canvas center, and Evercalf calfskin handles and detailing. It's expected to launch by the end of the year.
