Horus Pteranodon Skeleton
As a creature capable of flight, pteranodons had hollow, fragile bones. This same feature means that very few skeletons made it from the late Cretaceous period — roughly 85 million years ago — to the present day. This particular specimen, named Horus, is a notable exception. Measuring ~20 feet across and nearly 10 feet tip to tip, it is remarkably well preserved, with 107 fossil bones found intact in Logan County, Kansas. Finished with high-resolution 3D printed elements, it was recently auctioned by Sotheby's, and sold for well north of $3 Million, placing it among the top five most expensive fossil skeletons ever sold.
