'Jodi' Nanotyrannus Skeleton
The 2019 excavation of Jodi, a Nanotyrannus skeleton, was filmed for the Discovery series Dino Hunters. Rancher Jodi Pierson found it on private land in Garfield County, Montana, where the Hell Creek Formation preserved it for about 67 million years. The mounted skeleton stands 6.5 feet tall and 19.6 feet long, built from about 191 fossil elements that include a near-complete skull with roughly 35 teeth and a complete pelvis. It was shown at Frieze in 2023 as a juvenile T. rex, before a 2025 study confirmed Nanotyrannus as its own tyrannosaur, one that grew to about half the length of a T. rex. It is one of only three known Nanotyrannus skeletons, and it is now up for auction.
