マサチューセッツ工科大学のコンピューター・サイエンスと人工知能研究室によって造られた「SoFiロボティック・フィッシュ」は、海洋生物の研究に新しい方法として導入された。音響コマンドを使ってダイバーが離れた場所から操作でき、油圧モーターで本物の魚のように左右に動くことができる。両脇の胸ビレと浮力コントロールユニットで縦横上下に動かせ、搭載カメラからは人間には不可能な場所を撮影することもできるのだ。
