Lightyear 0 Solar Car
The Lightyear 0 solar-powered electric car is beginning production in Europe, the first of its kind. The Lightyear 0's fastback body shape is covered in solar panels from the hood to the trunk, powering a 60 kWh battery pack. The car charges automatically whenever it's exposed to sunlight, with Lightyear claiming up to 44 miles of range per day in sunny climates, with a total range of 388 miles. Lightyear claims an average daily commute of 22 miles in the Netherlands summer didn't need plug-in charging for two months, and a range of 3,700 to 6,800 miles of solar-only power per year. Lightyear previously announced that 964 units will be produced at its factory in Finland, with deliveries starting in November 2022. A significantly cheaper model is scheduled to start production in 2025.
