EV startup Lightyear unveiled the production-ready version of its innovative electric car, the Lightyear 0. The Lightyear 0 covers the hood and fastback roof in solar panels, powering a 60 kWh battery pack. The car charges whenever it's exposed to sunlight, with Lightyear claiming up to 44 miles of range per day in sunny climates, with a total EV range of 388 miles. Lightyear claims an average daily commute of 22 miles in the Netherlands summer didn't need plug-in charging for two months. The company claims a range of 3,700 to 6,800 miles of solar-only power per year. Only 964 units will be produced, with deliveries starting in November 2022, with a significantly cheaper model scheduled to start production in 2025.
