There are rare collectibles and then there's the Louis Vuitton Aluminium Explorer Trunk. Produced in 1892, only a handful of these cabin trunks were made and just two of them are still around today. Meaning only you and the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris will have a piece of luggage just like this. But that's not the only thing that makes this item unique. During the time, rather than donning their signature monogram logo, an aluminum exterior was the ultimate status symbol. The material was considered precious at the time due to its expensive processing methods. The rest of this trunk's history is somewhat of a mystery, with its original owner unknown and its exotic travels left to the imagination. The piece will go under the gavel December 12, 2018.
