Mercedes-Benz Electric G-Wagen
The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen remains unseated as an automotive status symbol — but it wasn't always a luxury item. Its roots are in the military, and the vehicle's design initially catered to the demanding terrain of countries like Iran and Syria. All-wheel-drive and outfitted with a 6-cylinder in-line turbodiesel engine, gas-guzzling has always been a point of opposition for those who say they'd never own one. Today, though, Mercedes-Benz took a major step forward with its all-new electrified G-Wagen, the G 580 with EQ Technology. Boasting nearly 294 miles of range and a top speed of 112 mph, this beast can go 0-60 in roughly 4.5 seconds. It carries with it, though, the same off-roading capabilities: selectable low gear reduction, crawl "cruise control," a tight turning radius, and the ability to stay stuck on inclines up to 35 degrees.
