The Range Rover Electric is the nameplate's first vehicle built to run entirely without gasoline, tested in the Arctic Circle's -40°F cold and the Arabian Desert's peak heat before reaching production. Land Rover engineered and built its twin electric motors in-house, tuning them for 20 percent more torque than similarly sized motors elsewhere, and paired them with a system that adjusts torque output within five milliseconds, quicker than most people could ever react. The battery pack sits in a double-stack cell arrangement for better power density, protected underneath by a reinforced, flat underbody built to slide over obstacles rather than catch on them. A fast charger adds up to 125 miles of range in just 10 minutes, and the SUV still wades through water up to 35 inches deep and tows as much as 5,511 pounds, keeping the off-road credentials Range Rover built its name on.
