Muhammad Ali's Thrilla in Manila Fight-Worn Everlast Boxing Trunks
Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier III, better known as the "Thrilla in Manila", is widely considered one of the best boxing matches of all time. The trunks worn by the late legend Ali during the fight are now up for auction. Crafted by Everlast from white satin with a black side trim and a black waistband — complete with "Made expressly for Muhammad Ali" on the center label — they retain the stains from the brutal 14-round affair. Those same stains and imperfections were used to authenticate them via photomatching. Ali's assistant trainer and corner man, Drew "Bundini" Brown inscribed the trunks on both the right and left legs, while Ali's signature, certified by James Spence Authentication, appears in black sharpie on the lower left leg. A monumental piece of boxing and sports history, the trunks are expected to fetch as much as $6 million when they cross the block at Sotheby's New York on March 27th.
