Sitting somewhere between foam-projectile Nerf blasters and paintball guns lie gel blasters. Now Nerf is creating one of their own with the Gelfire Mythic. It fires squishy pellets of watery gel, which explode on contact (no clean-up required) and arrive dry in packs of 5,000, needing hydrated before they can be loaded into the 800-pellet hopper. A USB-rechargeable 7.4V battery powers fully automatic, 10-round-per-second operation, with an available semi-auto mode to save battery and/or pellets. The pellets fire at high velocity — fast enough that Nerf is including eye protection with the Mythic — and accommodate play with the stock extended or retracted, with or without the barrel. Slated for a November 1st release.
