Nike Apex Marathon Racing Shoe
Adidas swept the podium at this year's Berlin Marathon and backed it up with the first sub-two-hour marathon finish, and Nike's answer is the Apex. The shoe runs four Air Zoom units in two double-stacked pairs under the forefoot, more Air than Nike has ever packed into a racing shoe, wrapped in a new ZoomX LT foam built softer and lighter than the standard compound. A raised, inverse-wave carbon fiber Flyplate channels load straight into those air units, sitting on a 40mm zero-drop stack for even support from heel to toe. Nike claims 40 percent more energy return than its own record-setting Alphafly 3, at more than 10 percent less weight: 6.2 ounces, wrapped in a sockliner-free Flyknit X upper for a glove-like fit.
