Scotch Malt Whisky Society The Only Drop

Many offerings at Sotheby's upcoming Distillers One of One auction are extremely rare, with The Scotch Malt Whisky Society's The Only Drop exceedingly so. The Speyside-distilled spirit inside was initially placed in an Oloroso sherry butt on 25th September 1989. In May 2019, the liquid was equally divided between first-fill Oloroso and first-fill Pedro Ximénez hogsheads. They were mixed together three years later, resulting in The Only Drop. Bottled at 50.8% abv, it's surrounded by a paper pulp sculpture made using wood shavings from the original casks, and comes with a 10cl miniature bottle for tasting, better to preserve the one-of-a-kind original. It will come up for auction on October 5.
