The real electric vehicle revolution isn't in zero-emissions or one day closing the door on fossil fuels — it's in off-the-shelf technology that is ushering in a flood of upstarts that hasn't been seen since the turn of the 20th century. While Sony isn't new and is a massive tech company, the idea of buying a Sony-made car was unthinkable — until now. Debuting at the 2020 CES show, the Sony Vision-S prototype is a showcase for Sony's tech prowess, brimming with 33 different sensors, widescreen displays, high-end 360 audio, and always-on connectivity. The interior features a dash-spanning display and displays mounted in the headrests for rear-seat passengers. The platform itself is an exclusive design by Magna and can be adapted for other uses like SUVs. Sony didn't give many other details on the Vision-S, but it points to a wild new future for the automobile.
