Tesla Roadster Electric Sports Car
Tesla first showed the Roadster in 2017, promising a four-seat car by 2020. The new one is an angular wedge with a yoke instead of a steering wheel, and at its unveiling at a SpaceX test site it climbed a looping ramp until it was upside down, then flipped through the air on compressed-air thrusters developed alongside SpaceX engineers and landed. Three trims are planned. The Performance is the road-ready two-seater with active aerodynamics, the Thrust gains rear thrusters for a target of 0 to 60 mph in under a second, and the single-seat Rocket, available by invitation only, carries a full set of 10 thrusters and is not cleared for public roads. Tesla says the car can top 230 mph, and Elon Musk says Tesla will start building it in 2028.
