The Complete Kubrick Criterion Box Set
Stanley Kubrick spent decades trying to bury Fear and Desire, his 1953 debut, buying up prints and calling it an embarrassment. Criterion's Complete Kubrick box set includes it anyway, restored in 4K alongside his other twelve features and three shorts. Thirty discs total: 4K UHD and Blu-ray pairings, original mono tracks restored alongside remastered 5.1 mixes, and Kubrick's separate international cut of The Shining. Bonus material runs past twenty-five hours and includes Vivian Kubrick's documentary on the making of The Shining, unseen Lolita screen tests with James Mason and Sue Lyon, and rare effects footage from animator John Whitney that Kubrick studied before shooting 2001: A Space Odyssey. The packaging, designed by Drusilla Adeline, is built to resemble Kubrick's own archive, reproducing his annotated photographs and documents on the box itself.
