In 1965, Leo sold the company to CBS and two disastrous decades followed, with questionable design changes to classic models and an overall reduction in quality resulting from corporate cost-cutting. Fast forward to 1985. CBS exec Bill Shultz led a bid to purchase the company from CBS. Two years later, the Fender Custom Shop was founded and has been handcrafting dreams for guitarists ever since.
