The ending of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey is a bit ambiguous, to say the least. Viewers have debated its meaning for the last 50 years but we may finally have the answer now. In this unearthed interview with Jun'ichi Yaoi from 1980, the legendary director reveals his intent behind the final scene of the iconic film. The clip is taken from a documentary Yaoi was making at the time about extraterrestrial life. He spoke with Kubrick during the filming of The Shining but the project was never released and remained shelved until the footage was sold on eBay in 2016.
