The Targa Florio

For 71 years, the Targa Florio saw some of the fastest purpose-built race cars in the world thunder through towns and villages on the Italian island of Sicily, all on winding public roads that dated back to the Roman Empire. Safety was the nearly the last thing on anyone's mind until the race was deemed too dangerous and stopped in 1977. But for seven decades, it brought some of the greatest names in racing to the island for one of the most unforgettable races in history.
