Mercedes' vaunted G-Wagen has seen many permutations over the years. Leave it to Virgil Abloh to invent a new one. Dubbed "Project Geländewagen", the collaborative work transforms the rugged SUV into an art-piece racer. The exterior is kept free of indicators, outside mirrors, and bumper bars, with a hand-sanded paint job. Inside, the safety frame takes over as a motif, as the digital dashboard has been replaced with an analog speedo and fuel gauge, the comfy seats replaced by racing-spec buckets, and the safety features highlighted with bright reds and baby blues. A 1:3 scale replica of the original will be auctioned off as part of Sotheby's Contemporary Curated event, with proceeds going to benefit a charity for international creative communities.
