As the number of electric vehicles grows, so does the need for charging stations. Yet retrofitting existing parking structures can be costly and inconvenient. Volkswagen's mobile charging robot concept would alleviate this issue by allowing the charger to come to the vehicle. Fully autonomous, the robot is fitted with cameras, Lidar, and ultrasonic sensors that allow it to charge parked cars on its own, using a robotic arm and 25 kWh battery "wagons". Still in the prototype stage, there is no set launch date for the system.
